James Penny is TAM’s Chief Investment Officer, bringing over 15 years of global financial market experience and a sharp, analytical approach to investment management. He began his career at UBS AG in New York and London, specialising in investment banking operations, equities, derivatives, and portfolio trading, gaining deep insight into global markets, complex financial instruments, dealing systems, and portfolio rebalancing strategies. At TAM, James runs the firms Active model portfolios and fund of fund strategies. As CIO, James also leads the firm’s top-down macro investment strategy while overseeing a team of portfolio managers, fund analysts, and quantitative researchers responsible for the bottom-up investment process covering TAM’s suite of multi-manager investment solutions in both model portfolio and fund of funds. James combines a disciplined work ethic with a structural approach to furthering TAM’s top down and bottom-up research capabilities. James places huge emphasis on strategic growth objectives, ensuring investment decisions are aligned with risk, client objectives, and long-term growth. His extensive market knowledge, international experience, and ability to interpret market dynamics underpin TAM’s innovative and resilient investment philosophy which is renown for delivering reliable investment portfolios with good risk adjusted characteristics. James is recognised for his straight-talking pragmatism and energetic leadership. James fosters a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and excellence within the team. Guiding colleagues to make and learn from their mistakes remains key to creating resilient investors able to make difficult discussions in difficult scenarios to the benefit of the end client. He takes pride in helping clients understand the shape and style of their investments, crafting portfolios that balance opportunity with protection. Importantly James spends time translating complex market instruments into easy-to-understand portfolio building blocks to help investors build a tangible connection between them and the portfolio which holds their hard-earned wealth.

Outside of investing, James is responsible for the series of TAM Charity Rides helping boost the profiles and funding of small to medium sized charities in the UK which has raised over £300,000 for good causes.
